I was really surprised to learn that despite the Covid pandemic, car accident deaths rose 7.2% in 2020. The U.S. experienced this rise despite the fact that most Americans drove less due to the pandemic.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concluded there are three main reasons for the 2020 rise in deaths:
- Failure to wear seatbelts
- Speeding
- Driving under the influence
The number of drivers killed because they didn’t wear their seatbelts rose 16%. Speed contributed to the 10% rise in deaths. Alcohol accounted for a 9% increase in deaths. Last year car crashes killed 38,680 people in total. So, please slow down, wear your seatbelt and don’t drink and drive.
